Petition to Gov. Kemp to Protect the Okefenokee

Dear Garden Clubs & Councils,

We need your help  -

we are asking all our members to sign a petition to present to Governor Kemp.

Please print this out and pass around at your next meeting.

Friends and neighbors too!

We have been fighting to Save the Okefenokee Swamp for many years.   The most recent threat from mining -  the proposed mine in the south portion of Trail Ridge – has been resolved thanks to the hard work of many groups to raise funds.   Twin Pines Minerals has agreed to sell its land in South Georgia to  The Conservation Fund  for $60 million.   Wow and Whew!

But the battle is not over, just because this little bit of land is now protected.

There is not enough money to buy all the land in Trail Ridge.

Some other means of prohibiting mining or restricting mineral rights needs to happen at the state level.   Even though we had 91 sponsors on the Save the Oke bill, it never made it out of committee for a full vote in the House.    State Leadership needs to make it happen.  Please make your wishes known by asking all your club members to sign the petition in the link -  use as many pages as needed.  Send the hard copies back to me via postal mail as soon as your meeting is over.   We will be presenting thousands of signatures to the Governor in late October/early November.      Thank you for your support.
