Chair: Executive Board

This year our Executive Board will chair Scarecrow in the Square. Their decided roll for our Miss Daisy May to portray will be Betsy Ross.

Betsy Ross: Stitching History Together

Betsy Ross (though my friends in 1776 called me Elizabeth) 

Occupation: Seamstress, Upholsterer, and accidental Revolutionary icon! 

Hometown: Philadelphia, PA (but vacationing in Marietta for October)

My Scarecrow Story:

While General George Washington asked me to sew the very first Stars and Stripes, I couldn't have finished this particular flag without a little help from the 21st century!

The brilliant students at Marietta Middle School stepped in as my apprentices, hand-crafting the starry navy canton using white flowers to give my flag a beautiful, autumnal texture. With the steady hands of the Marietta Daisies to stuff my dress, fix my rocking chair, (which is difficult to do with cornstalk hands) and make sure I don't blow away in the October wind, I am proud to sit in Glover Park and watch history march on.
