10thYear Anniversary

"As garden club members, we are united by more than just a shared interest. We share a passion for the natural world, a desire to create beauty, and a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things."
"Our gardens are not just personal havens; they are expressions of our stewardship of the environment. We have a duty to protect and conserve nature's bounties for future generations, much like our ancestors before us."
"Each plant we nurture, each seed we sow, contributes to a living legacy—a testament to our connection with the earth."
Thank you Marietta Daisies we love each and everyone of your contribution to our garden club.

"Deeply Rooted, Standing the Test of Time"
What a year!
I had themed the first two years as a club to be intentional with everything we were doing to learn, grow and serve.
This year for me was part of the culmination of what was in my heart. I wanted us to be so deeply rooted in this community that it would seem we have always been here. There were still many things on my wish list, but I wanted the next transition to be easy with the important working parts in place.
Everything was done with intentionality and care.
First meeting for me brought the changes that I felt were important: having the room set with tables for comfort, using fabric tablecloths/napkins, and glassware which speak to my heart for Conservation and Sustainability.
We started the Website knowing that Communication is the key to success, offering a place for instant access for all members. We imparted flower of the month information and seed sharing giving an extra nod to Education. We added centerpiece giveaways as a final addition for the new meeting look creating a way for Hospitality to be at the forefront and welcoming touch. We had Daisy Awards as Thank You to honor members for going beyond in their service. Our first “We Love our Daisies” to get to know each other on a deeper level. We were able to impact and build our Community by continuing our Scarecrows on the Square submission with honorary Marietta Daisies Club Member, Daisy May Crow; Merry Mingle Christmas event to get to know other members of our Council; Marietta Middle School adaptive classroom and outdoor garden participation each month,
Birney Memorial Rose Garden’s Daisy Darlings caretaking and Brumby Hall & Garden’s Walter Reeves event. Marietta School’s Foundation was added in the Spring with another historic project for our club.
Our first Marietta Daily Journal newspaper article and saying yes when asked to help was marked success.
I have encouraged each new President to make this club their own; always moving us forward and never backwards. This club is fabulous because of the people who share their gifts and talents each month.
My heart is full knowing that the legacy of what was started will be lasting.
This club has been a way to fill my proverbial love bucket in so many ways including things I had never dreamed of for myself. The first State (Garden Club of Georgia) win for our Daisies was my poetry submission for Adult to a Child in 2019.
The Daisies submitted me as their Member Award of Honor in 2023 with me winning the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc., Deep South Region’s Member of Honor, and a National Garden Club award of merit as Member Award of Honor.
Since then, I have been able to hold the position of President of the Marietta Council of Garden Clubs, Inc., Life Member of the Marietta Council; Garden Club of Georgia Board Member, Laurel District Chairman, Life Member of the Garden Club of Georgia, Life Member of the Deep South Region and the Garden Club of Georgia presented me with a Scholarship in my name on behalf of the Laurel District honoring my win for Deep South Member Award of Honor.
What a blessing starting a garden club has already been to me and it’s not over.

“Bloom Where You Are Planted”
Year Four
Marietta Daisies Garden Club
What a wonderful year we had as many of us, including myself, were new to the club and wore many hats. It was our first year serving the Marietta Schools Foundation, the first year we had a Vice President who would become President the following year, and the third year that Daisy May Crow won 1st Place at Harvest Fest; Scarecrows on the Square. We also revised our hospitality procedures to include all club members which we put in place the following year. We had fabulous field trips to Gibbs Gardens in the fall and Smith-Gilbert Gardens in the spring. We heard from many local celebrities like Mickey Gazaway, Rick Smith of the Pruning Guru, and author Staci Catron who imparted their wisdom on all things gardening. We grew as a club and grew in fellowship with each other. We essentially “Bloomed Where we were Planted.”

"Live Life in Full Bloom –
Cultivate, Educate, Participate."
Guess what happened - COVID!!!
We were quarantined right before the year started but thanks to my wonderful board, we weathered the storm in fine fashion. We met outdoors until it got too cold to do so, wore masks and spread out our chairs.
Our fundraiser was the beautiful notecards designed by one of our own, Melissa Snyder, with a watercolor picture of one of our projects, Birney Rose Garden.
We held our first poetry contest and entered two poems in the state poetry contest. We had great programs at the Marietta Educational Garden Center put together by the Program committee. Behind masks our projects continued to flourish: Winnwood Retirement Center was blessed with a bluebird house, thanks to James Bearden; Marietta Middle School Project continued to be a comprehensive outdoor learning space for the special students; Birney Memorial Garden Center was maintained by the Daisy Darlings with financial help from the Marietta School Foundation; Plantings were completed in the fall and spring at the Marietta Schools
Foundation in appreciation of their support of our projects and last but not least Miss Daisy made her
appearance at the Marietta Square.
Even though a lot of the bloom was taken out of our life by the pandemic, the Daisies continued to cultivate, educate and participate by enjoying our many friendships, working on projects and making the
most of the year. It was truly a great honor to lead such a great group of ladies.

The 2021-22 year saw the Daisies starting to emerge just like the rest of the world from the most intense effects of the COVID pandemic. While we were still practicing social distancing at least we could meet inside the Garden Center for our meetings! It was great to be back together in a way that was starting to resemble our familiar routines!
In many ways this year was a welcome start to a return to normalcy. The Daisies kept showing up and doing great when it cam e to Daisy May, winning awards, and enjoying each others’ company. Although these things never went away even during the height of the pandemic…it was just nice to enjoy them a little more freely!
A wonderful legacy from this year is the Board’s decision to host our first Daisies Summer Soiree. The idea came about as a way for the club to give back to the members since we had the means to do so at that time. A summer social seemed great since the Daisies do not have regular meetings during those months and this would give us a way to see one another during a time when we ordinarily might not do so. It was a hit and this year the Daisies hosted our fourth annual Summer Soiree event to a full capacity Daisies crowd! Although the Soiree committee has grown in size, it is still comprised in part by that same 2021-22 Executive Board. Just another example of Daisies working hard and enjoying every chance to gather!

“Where Daisies Bloom, So Does Hope”
The Marietta Educational Garden Center went through renovation from January to April and garden clubs were unable to use the kitchen and bathrooms. Our own Tracie Guckian was instrumental in designing and implementing the beautiful, fresh look of the
Preservation/Restoration!
Nancy Forbes kindly offered the Daises to meet at her pretty neighborhood clubhouse by the pond in Westport during that time.
A favorite field trip was to Athens, GA. We visited Founders Memorial Garden where the first garden club in the nation started in 1861, yes, right here in Georgia! Minutes away is the Garden Club of Georgia where we had a Daisies/Council meeting and lunch, then toured the Headquarters (loved seeing the room full of silver bowls and crystal awards, some of which had the Marietta Daisies engraved on them)!
Then, we walked to the beautiful State Botanical Garden, and the Porcelain Museum.
The Daisies were busy with projects and it paid off as we won 14 awards during 2022-2023!
Kudos to Deanna Slone, a shining star, as she won 3 Member of Honor Awards for State, Regional, and National, as a Marietta Daisies and Garden Clubs of Georgia member!
Our Done-In-A-Day project made educational signage with QR codes printed for MSF, Birney, and MMS. Passersby can connect via the code and learn about our projects via our beautifully designed and informative website!
Daisies love a good party, and we made the most with Merry Mingle where committee members hilariously dressed the part and performed The Twelve Days of Christmas with such enthusiasm! Patricia and Martin Silbiger opened their gorgeous home to Daisies and their dates for an evening filled with love and laughter celebrating Valentine’s Day. Judy Hardin hosted the
End-of-the-Year Party, poolside, at her most lovely home and garden. Her husband Grover gave a garden tour of their incredibly, beautiful backyard path. The rose arch was stunning! Hats off to Lyric and crew for the first sensational Soiree!

"Let's root for each other"
'Let's root for each other' and boy did I appreciate all the rooting and support during my term as your President.
It was very helpful to lead in as the V.P. Being able to put faces with names and making that personal connection at each meeting.
I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and productive Executive Board, Committee Chairs and of course all of the Daisies!
Looking back on the programs were fun, interesting and we even learned a thing or two.
Our meetings accomplished that year's theme...'And we watched each other grow!'
It was a year that I'll always treasure!

I am a charter member of the Daisies. I have enjoyed getting to know people and make new friends as the membership has changed over the years.
My favorite part of the Daisies is how service oriented we are. We truly “get our hands dirty” in many different ways in the Marietta community.
Two of my favorite projects have been the Birney Rose Garden and the Marietta Middle School.
During my president’s year, we added two new projects - Park on Polk and Adopt a Mile with Keep Marietta Beautiful.
I believe each one of us has so much talent and heart that we bring to the Daisies and our club becomes even stronger and better each year.
What a privilege it has been to be a part of such a great club for the last 10 years.
